👥The Half Has Never Been Told 👥
This large-sized book is amazing. I normally don't start off the reviews like this but this book is something that I highly recommend for all people to read. The author Edward Baptist does a great job of connecting motives from the precolonial United States to the act of slavery and the profits made from it.
Baptist includes views from so many different angles; which ties into one of the biggest events to ever happen to the united states. He goes on to factually break down every moment that added to the success of America, the destruction of black people, and the wealth of other nations. Because of the book's extensive length, some might have to go back and re-read sections. I know I had to a few times while reading it, but it was worth it.I really like this book because, for the first time in a long time, it feels like the right light was shined on the right views. If all people read this, I feel like they would learn a thing or two about how the world works, how pivotal it was for nations to have control, and how the world has still kept certain things as a reminder of how dependent they were on the wrong thing at one point. If eyes could be opened, I feel like that would positively affect the problems of society today.
We shouldn't focus on the past (common advice), but in order for us to fully understand the root of a problem, we must see the whole picture for what it really is; rather than seeing what we're only comfortable with. The best accomplishments are made when people choose to go out of their comfort zone. America as a whole could learn to step out of its comfort zone - so that it could possibly
embrace something bigger and better.
Thank you - Pancho.
