Technology has been a help for the human race ever since the 1900”s. All materials created through technology were used to do specific things such as entertain, speed up processes, and do a small portion of what the a human being could not do. Under entertainment, technology like the television, music player, and computers kept humans everywhere occupied with something to do in their spare time. During the past couple of years, our race of humans has been able to include an upgrade in these different types of technology used to entertain us. Some of the newest products of today include the iPhone, Toshiba laptops, LG televisions, and mp3 players. Having all of these sources of entertainment available to us, we can now use them as much as we please, satisfying our entertainment in many ways possible. One of these ways includes Social Media
These social media websites are used to form a link between people in the same rural area and people all over the world. During my academic career in college, it is important that I conduct myself properly over the use of these different social media networks. Many people get to know your identity when you first enter college. College grounds are used to prepare students for the real world and one of the ways they normally have include the buildup of a resume. This resume might be used by me one day to get access to a job. The employer might decide to search up my name on the internet and if they find out something bad about me, that could harm my chances of a possible job. By conducting myself properly, I can look good on the internet and seem as I appear in person. Someone should never live two different lives, where in person you’re friendly and respectful but online you’re vulgar and inappropriate.
Over the past few years of my social network life, I have made accounts that I hoped would entertain me or create a link with my friends outside of school. Some of my social media accounts include Yahoo email, Face book, Twitter, Gmail, Voxer, Snapchat, Skype, Oovoo, Group Me, and some others. Out of all my accounts named, I only check two or three regularly. The others might have lost my interest or I just did not have any need for them anymore, due to a better social network created. The two or three that I do regularly check are Face book, Twitter, and my emails. Gmail and Yahoo email get checked almost every day of the week, face book gets checked five out of seven times during the week, and twitter gets checked out four out of seven times. My emails aren’t really used for entertainment; it’s rather used for information purposes. The twitter and face book accounts are used for my entertainment and I only use them for videos to watch. I barely ever post something on face book, instead I use face book messenger to talk to personal friends. With twitter I use (DM) or direct message when I get on and the last time I used DM was two years ago.
Some of the things that are seen on my Face book might be considered inappropriate comedy but none of it is ever mine. These postings are just watched by me for entertainment. Twitter is the exact same way; I only look at the postings used for entertainment. My privacy settings are very limited only covering my password from hackers. I don’t feel that I will have anything to hide later on in the future over these social networks. This is why I keep my name, birthday, age and location available to the public. People still might be able to hack my account, but they won’t find anything so it would be a waste of their time. I have had one of my accounts hacked in the past, my Oovoo account. For some reason, somebody decided to hack into my conversation with another girl and told the girlfriends boyfriend things that weren’t true. After that incident I almost lost a friend, blamed my brother for the problem, and put a higher privacy setting on my account.
In order for me to become a better social network user, I shouldn’t take my privacy setting so lightly. For my reminder of college, I shouldn’t associate myself with postings that might seem inappropriate to future employers. Getting away from that negativity online, and standing in a better crowd would be more responsible steps for me to take over the social network.
